Rules Changes for 2009
Little League has published the changes to the baseball and softball rule books under which the 2009 season will be played. There are not as many changes for 2009 as there were last season. For baseball, the biggest changes have to do with pitchers. Last year, if a player pitched a single pitch, he was ineligable to play the position of the catcher for the remainder of the game. That rule has been changed to allow a player who pitches less that 41 pitches to be eligible to play the position of catcher for the remainder of the game.
Another change for Junior League baseball only has to do with the diameter of bats. They are reducing the allowable bat diameter from 2 3/4 inches to 2 5/8 inches. Other changes in baseball are pretty much clarifications of existing rules.
For softball, not much has changed. The biggest rule change was that single color gloves cannot be optic yellow.
